Titans Defeat Westside Christian in Three Innings
Darlington, SC — A massive first inning set the tone for Trinity Collegiate as the Titans rolled to a 17–0 victory in three innings over Westside Christian Academy on Monday at Trinity Collegiate School.
Trinity erupted for 12 runs in the opening frame, sending a wave of hitters to the plate and piling up extra-base hits along the way. 8th Grader Marshall Campbell jump-started the rally with a double, and Freshman Reagan Huxford followed with another two-bagger to drive in a run. 8th Grader Eli Flowers added an RBI single before the Titans continued to pressure the defense with aggressive baserunning and timely hitting.
The inning continued with a fielder's choice from 8th Grader Joe Snipes that still brought home a run, an RBI single from 7th Grader Matthew Moekel, and a two-run single by 7th Grader Grayson Stengel. Marshall Campbell struck again later in the inning with another double that drove in two more runs. An error, an RBI single by Freshman Tilman Campbell, and a steal of home capped the explosive inning and gave Trinity a commanding early lead.
The Titans added five more runs in the second inning to extend the advantage.8th Grader George Taflinger delivered the biggest blow of the frame with a bases-clearing double that plated three runs. Flowers added another RBI single, and Marshall Campbell recorded his third run batted in of the day with another double.
On the mound, Tilman Campbell was equally impressive. The right-hander tossed three hitless innings, striking out six while allowing just one walk to keep Westside Christian Academy off the scoreboard.
Trinity's offense finished with 11 hits in the game. Marshall Campbell, Taflinger, Flowers, and Tilman Campbell each collected two hits, while Marshall Campbell led the team with three RBIs and went 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Titans were aggressive on the basepaths all afternoon, swiping 10 stolen bases. Huxford and Taflinger each recorded multiple steals as Trinity consistently put pressure on the defense.
Defensively, Trinity played a clean game without committing an error. Flowers led the team with seven fielding chances.
The Titans return to action Tuesday when they face Hilton Head Christian Academy in the region opener. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM.
