Titans Win By Forfeit, 1-0
UPDATE: Hilton Head Christian has forfeited this contest due to a pitcher exceeding the maximum number of pitches allowed in a game. It is recorded as a 1-0 win for Trinity Collegiate.
Darlington, SC — Trinity Collegiate dropped a tightly contested 5–3 decision to Hilton Head Christian Academy on Tuesday despite a strong pitching performance and aggressive play on the basepaths.
Hilton Head Christian Academy jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of a Trinity error that allowed two runs to score.
The Titans received a solid outing on the mound from Sophomore Caleb Saleeby, who kept the game within reach throughout the afternoon. Saleeby worked five innings, allowing just two hits and two runs, both unearned, while striking out three and walking two.
Trinity battled back offensively, showing patience at the plate and pressure on the bases. The Titans drew six walks as a team and stole seven bases during the game.
8th Graders Marshall Campbell and George Taflinger, hitting back-to-back in the lineup, each drove in a run for Trinity. Sophomore William Fox, Saleeby, and Freshman Tilman Campbell each recorded a hit for the Titans, while Taflinger led the team with two walks.
On the basepaths, Fox, Saleeby, and Sophomore Prue Branyon each stole multiple bases as Trinity consistently looked to create scoring opportunities with its speed.
Hilton Head Christian Academy collected five hits in the game, with Aaron Jackson, Charlie Nelson, Enzo Lopez, Reese Scarbro, and Austin Broene each recording one. Jackson, Jacob Broene, and Andy Duque drove in runs for the Eagles, while Broene also added two stolen bases as Hilton Head Christian Academy finished with four steals.
The Titans will have a chance to bounce back later this week when they travel to face Hilton Head Christian Academy again on Friday. First pitch is set for 4:30 PM.
