Strong Second Inning Leads Titans Past Lions, 13-3
Darlington, SC- The Trinity Collegiate junior varsity baseball team powered its way to a 13-3 win over King's Academy on Monday at Rhea Field, highlighted by a massive second-inning surge.
The Lions struck first in the opening inning, scoring two runs on a double and a walk to take an early lead.
Trinity responded in a big way in the bottom of the second, erupting for 10 runs on a steady stream of hits and aggressive baserunning. The inning featured RBI singles from Tilman Campbell, Iyhon Robinson, Prue Branyon, George Taflinger, and Marshall Campbell, along with a bases-loaded error that brought home two more runs as the Titans seized full control.
The Titans added to their lead in the third inning when Branyon, William Fox, and Taflinger each came around to score on a walk and a fielder's choice, extending the advantage.
On the mound, Caleb Saleeby got the start and struck out three over two innings, while Eli Flowers delivered three strong relief innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out five.
Offensively, Taflinger led the Titans with a 2-for-3 performance, while Robinson, Campbell, and Taflinger each drove in two runs. Trinity finished with eight walks and four stolen bases, including three from James Hanna.
King's was led by Peyton Sims, Wells Bryant, Tim Belue, and Marren, who each recorded a hit, with Sims, Bryant, and Ben Sawyer driving in runs.
The Titans return to action Thursday when they take the short trip to Florence for a rematch with King's Academy.
