Titans Battle to the Wire in Season Opener vs. Pee Dee Academy
Darlington, S.C.- The Trinity Collegiate Titans opened their 2025 football season in the familiar confines of Kraikit Field on Friday night. In a hard-fought matchup against the defending SCISA 2A State Champions, Pee Dee Academy, they fell just short in a 14–12 contest.
After a scoreless first quarter, Pee Dee Academy struck first with a 45-yard touchdown pass and successful two-point conversion to take an 8–0 halftime lead. The Titans responded in the third quarter when quarterback Davidson Lynch (Florence, S.C./All Saints Episcopal Day School) connected with Garrison Copeland (Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville Middle School) on a 19-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 8–6. The Eagles answered with another touchdown strike to extend their lead to 14–6 heading into the final frame.
Trinity mounted a late rally as Lynch once again found Copeland, this time on a 5-yard touchdown connection to bring the Titans within two. Despite the strong push, the two-point try was unsuccessful, and Pee Dee Academy held on for the narrow victory.
Lynch finished the night with 165 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Copeland hauled in both scores among his three receptions. Desmond Williams II (Florence, S.C./Wilson High School) led the receiving corps with 74 yards, and Robert Mack (Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville Middle School) paced the ground game with 38 rushing yards.
On defense, the Titans were led by Walker Willcox, Jr. (Florence, S.C/Royall Elementary School) and Andre Jackson, Jr. (Hartsville, S.C./Hartsville Middle School), who each tallied 12 tackles. Johnathon Cottingham (Darlington, S.C./Darlington Middle School) added nine tackles and a crucial fumble recovery, while Mac Burch (Florence, S.C./All Saints Episcopal Day School) and Robert Mack also contributed several key stops.
Despite the loss, the Titans showed resilience and playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. They will look to build on this performance as they start a three-game road trip next week in Columbia. They will face a SCISA 4A opponent in Ben Lippen School next Friday, August 29th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM
