Record Day Powers Titans to Dominant Win Over First Baptist
Charleston, SC- The Trinity Collegiate Titans put together a complete performance on the road Friday night en route to defeating First Baptist 41-14 behind a high-powered passing attack led by quarterback Davidson Lynch (Florence, SC/All Saints Epsicopal Day School).
Lynch was nearly unstoppable, throwing for a school record 445 yards and 4 touchdowns while also adding a rushing score. His top target, Desmond Williams II (Florence, SC/Wilson High School), hauled in 7 catches for 206 yards and a touchdown, also a school record for receiving yards. Garrison Copeland (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) added 8 receptions for 156 yards and two scores. Running back Robert Mack (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) chipped in with 94 rushing yards, 34 receiving yards, and also caught a touchdown pass, giving the Titans multiple options offensively.
The Titans struck first in the opening quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run from Andre Jackson, Jr. (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School), and never looked back. Lynch connected with Copeland on a 51-yard score in the second quarter before punching in a short touchdown run to push the lead to 20-0 at halftime.
First Baptist finally got on the board in the third quarter with a 38-yard touchdown pass, but Trinity answered immediately with a 33-yard strike from Lynch to Mack. The Titans put the game away in the fourth, as Lynch hit Williams on a 12-yard touchdown and Copeland again from 24 yards out to extend the lead to 41-7. First Baptist added a late rushing touchdown, but the game was long decided. Kicker Parker Phipps (Florence, SC/All Saints Episcopal Day School) connected on 6 point after touchdown attempts, with his lone unsuccessful attempt being a block.
Trinity Collegiate rolled up a school record 616 total yards of offense, including 449 through the air, while limiting First Baptist to just 14 points. The offensive line consisting of Kyler Johnson (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School), Carter Evans (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School), Johnathon Cottingham (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School), Drew Cockrell (Chesterfield, SC/Chesterfield Ruby Middle School), and Oliver Brodie (Charleston, SC/Briggs Elementary School) led the charge in this record setting performance.
On defense, Walker Willcox, Jr. (Florence, SC/Royall Elementary School) led the way with 16 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Ten different Titans recorded tackles for loss and five different Titans recorded a sack. Robert Mack and Oliver Brodie tied Willcox for the most stops behind the line of scrimmage with four apiece. Andre Jackson, Jr. and Garrison Copeland both forced fumbles. Copeland recorded an interception as well. Jaylen Clark (Florence, SC/Sneed Middle School) had a big day on the defensive line with seven tackles, three for loss, and a team-leading two sacks.
With the win, the Titans improve their record to 2-2 and continue to build momentum heading deeper into the season. This game also concluded a three-game road trip for the Titans, as they will return to the friendly confines of Kraikit Field next Friday night to host Dillon Christian. This is the first of three consecutive home games for the Trinity and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
