Trinity Collegiate Rolls Past Dillon Christian, 35–13
Darlington, SC- The Trinity Collegiate Varsity Football team put together a dominant second-half performance to earn a 35–13 home victory over Dillon Christian on Friday night. After a slow start, the Titans' offense and defense came alive, outscoring the Warriors 35–13 over the final three quarters.
Senior quarterback Davidson Lynch (Florence, SC/All Saints Episcopal Day School) fueled the offense, throwing for 114 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a score. He connected with Garrison Copeland (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) for a 37-yard touchdown in the second quarter to break the scoreless tie, giving Trinity a 7–0 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Lynch extended the lead with a 3-yard touchdown run before Dillon Christian answered with an 80-yard strike from Jordan Blackmon to Reese Bracey. The Titans quickly responded, as Lynch found Desmond Williams II (Florence, SC/Wilson High School) for a 34-yard touchdown to make it 21–7.
The defense joined the scoring in the fourth quarter when Williams II picked off a pass and returned it 32 yards for a touchdown. After Dillon Christian cut the lead to 28–13, with Kyler Johnson (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School) blocking the ensuing extra point attempt, Andre Jackson, Jr. (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) sealed the game with a 10-yard touchdown run.
Running back Robert Mack (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) anchored the ground game with 105 rushing yards on 17 carries. Copeland hauled in six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown, while Williams provided the highlight on both sides of the ball with a receiving and interception return score.
Defensively, the Titans got standout performances from Walker Willcox, Jr. (Florence, SC/Royall Elementary School) with 15 tackles, including five for loss, and two pass breakups, and Johnathon Cottingham (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School) with 10 tackles, uncluding six for loss and a sack. Jackson, Jr. also made a major impact on defense with 8 tackles, six for loss, and two sacks.
Kicker Parker Phipps (Florence, SC All Saints Episcopal Day School) was perfect on the night, converting all five PATs.
With the win, Trinity Collegiate improves to 3–2 on the season and carries momentum on to the start of region play next week. The Titans will welcome Northside Christian Academy to Kraikit Field on Friday, September 26th. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
