Titans Storm Past Northside Christian in Weather Shortened Contest
Darlington, SC – The Trinity Collegiate Varsity Football team jumped out to a commanding lead Friday night in their SCISA 3A Region II opener at Kraikit Field on Friday night and never looked back, defeating Northside Christian 27-0 in a game that was called with 4:35 remaining in the second quarter due to an extended lightning delay.
The Titans struck quickly and often in front of the home crowd. After a 40-yard touchdown pass on the second snap of the game was called back due to a penalty, senior running back Robert Mack (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) set the tone early, breaking free for a 50-yard touchdown run on Trinity's on the next snap. He added a 12-yard score on the Titans second possession, finishing with 82 yards on just seven carries. Desmond Williams II (Florence, SC/Wilson High School) slammed the door on Northside's second possession of the night on the very first snap, picking off a Crusaders pass and returning it for a touchdown. This touchdown would be called back due to a penalty on the Titans, but the offense was set up with great field position. Andre Jackson, Jr. (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) added 42 yards rushing on only three carries for the Titans.
Quarterback Davidson Lynch (Florence, SC/All Saints Episcopal Day School) was sharp through the air, completing 5-of-6 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Garrison Copeland (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) on a 61-yard strike on the Titans' third drive and later found Jy'ell Preston (Darlington, SC/Darlington Middle School) from 20 yards out on the final player of the first quarter to extend the lead to 27-0.
By the time storms rolled in, Trinity had piled up 257 yards of total offense on only 18 plays while holding Northside Christian scoreless. The defensive front dominated as well, led by Walker Willcox, Jr. (Florence, SC/Royall Elementary School) with eight tackles, two of which went for loss, along with strong contributions from Mack and Preston on the defensive side of the ball as well.
With the win, Trinity improves to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in SCISA 3A Region II. They will be back at Kraikit Field next Friday night as they welcome Camden Military to town. This is another SCISA 3A Region II matchup and is also homecoming for the Titans. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM.
