Titans Fall to Wilson Hall on the Road, 35–18
Sumter, SC- Despite a strong passing performance from quarterback Davidson Lynch (Florence, SC/All Saints Episcopal Day School), Trinity Collegiate couldn't overcome Wilson Hall's balanced offensive attack, falling 35–18 in Friday night's region matchup.
Lynch was impressive through the air, completing 28 of 40 passes for 347 yards and a touchdown. His top target, Desmond Williams II (Florence SC/Wilson High School), turned in a monster game with 15 receptions for 238 yards, which broke the school record for receptions and his own school record for receiving yards set earlier this year.
Running back Robert Mack (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) paced the ground game with 42 rushing yards and a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Mack also added a two-point conversion to cap Trinity's scoring effort.
After a Baron three-and-out to open the game, the Titans marched down the field before their drive stalled in the red zone. Parker Phipps (Florence, SC/All Saints Episcopal Day School) hit a 29-yard field goal to give the Titans a 3-0 lead. After a massive kickoff return set the Barons up on the verge of the Titan redzone, they were able to punch in a rushing touchdown to take their first lead of the night, 7-3. Lynch would find Williams II for 43-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to put the Titans ahead, 10–7 .
After trailing 14–10 at halftime, the Titans struggled to sustain drives in the third quarter, as Wilson Hall scored twice to extend its lead to 28–10. The Barons added another touchdown early in the fourth before Trinity answered with Mack's late score.
On defense, Walker Willcox, Jr. (Florence, SC/Royall Elementary School) led the Titans with 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Matthew Dameron (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) added eight stops. Andre Jackson, Jr. (Hartsville, SC/Hartsville Middle School) chipped in six tackles, including one for loss, and Robert Mack contributed defensively as well with a fumble recovery, a sack, and a tackle for loss.
Kicker Parker Phipps was perfect on field goals and extra points.
Trinity Collegiate (now 5–3, 2-1 SCISA 3A Region II) will have a bye week to rest up before returning to Kraikit Field to renew their rivalry against Laurence Manning on Senior Night. Kickoff on October 24th is slated for 7:30 PM.
