Bio

Roy “Bogie” Boggess brings over two decades of basketball coaching, athletic administration, and player development experience to Trinity Collegiate School, where he serves as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics. Known for building competitive, disciplined, and high-character teams, Coach Boggess has led programs at the collegiate, prep, and AAU levels to championship contention, national tournament appearances, and the development of All-Conference, All-American, and national championship athletes.

As a head coach, Boggess has compiled an impressive record of success. He led the 2024 Ruckus Premier SC 15/16U team to a 32-5 record and a USBA National Championship, directed the CBSA/WV Gold Boys 12U–16U NXT Pro Travel Team to a 67-11 record and 15 major tournament titles (2020–2024), and guided St. Francis Central Catholic to a conference championship with an 18-2 record, producing a Conference Tournament MVP. At Alderson Broaddus University (2017–2020), his NCAA Division II program produced the Freshman Athlete of the Year and multiple GMAC All-Conference selections. At Garrett College, he posted a 102-39 record as head coach, leading the team to back-to-back Region XX runner-up finishes, producing NJCAA All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, and multiple All-Conference players. Earlier, as associate head coach at Garrett, he compiled a 45-20 record, winning back-to-back Region XX championships and earning a #7 national ranking. From 2005–2014, he served as AAU Team Director/Head Coach for WV Ruckus Boys & Girls 10U–17U, amassing 457 wins and 45 tournament championships.

Boggess has also held significant roles in athletic management and administration. As President of Operations and Recruiting for the Coach Bogie Skills Academy (2008–present), he has developed customized skill programs for athletes from beginner to elite levels and connected them with NCAA coaches for scholarship opportunities. He served as Vice President of the Corporation and Director of Athletics at West Virginia Academy (2022–2024), where he established the school’s first athletic programs, designed its name, logo, and mascot, secured facilities for all sports, and built a powerhouse basketball program. Additional roles include Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance, Operations, and Transportation at Davis & Elkins College (2021–2022), Director of Basketball Operations at Colleton Prep (2020–2021), Coordinator of Rec & Athletic Academic Services (2010–2017), and Director of Operations for the Nate Smith Basketball School (2005–2008).

His areas of expertise include player development, recruitment and talent scouting, compliance and regulatory affairs, fundraising and sponsorship acquisition, public relations and community engagement, marketing and branding, academic advising and support, human resource management, and facilities management.

Boggess holds a Master’s degree in Sport Management from American Public University and a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia University. His coaching philosophy centers on creating a positive environment that teaches hard work, confidence, and teamwork—one that is constantly challenging and enjoyable. Away from the court, he is dedicated to expanding athletic opportunities through community partnerships, fundraising, and facility improvements, and enjoys spending time with his family.
